We saw in an earlier session that those of us brought up with the Western worldview may tend to live our lives as if the spiritual world doesn’t really exist. When we hear teaching about Satan and his demons, it can seem old-fashioned or it can be hard to believe that they are actually real.
However, from Genesis all the way through to Revelation, the Bible maps the battle between good and evil, between the Christ and the antichrist, between the Spirit of Truth and the father of lies. That war was won on the cross 2,000 years ago when Jesus not only defeated the devil but made a mockery of him.
But whilst the war is won and the final outcome is certain, the battle still rages on for us every day. Paul tells us that we are fighting the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly realms (see Ephesians 6:10-20). Should we be afraid of this battle? No! It is a battle between truth and lies that takes place in our minds, and even if we have fallen for some of Satan’s lies, we can take back any rights we have given him to hold us back, and leap forward on our journey.
