Prepping for His Glorious Presence

Jude 1:24-25

Verse 24 To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy

As we begin to close out our study on the book of Jude we come to the truth of how to fan the flame of our faith, knowing God for who He is and desiring to know Him more. In Jude’s farewell blessing to his readers he reminds them of who all this is about in the first place. If we don’t understand God and His place in our lives we will not see our need to grow in relationship with Him, nor desire to serve His as He would have us do.

Jude first points out that God is the only one that can keep us from stumbling. Does this mean that we aren’t responsible for our sinful behavior? Of course not! But only in having a close relationship with God will we desire to forsake our sin and grow deeper in our faith. We are less likely to stumble when we seek His ways because we love Him and want to be all that He wants us to be.

Wanting to be all that He wants us to be isn’t all about being able to boast but must be about bringing Him glory. He keeps us from stumbling so that He can present us as His holy people. This is a very important thing for us to remember. He desires us to want to live holy lives. It brings Him great joy to know that His children desire to represent Him by living as He would live.

Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth” (John 17:17) is part of Jesus’ prayer for His followers prior to His trial and crucifixion. Jesus knew that we can’t do it on our own. He understood the frailty of the human nature, He was living as one after all. This led Him to pray that God would work in our lives, through His Word.

Our desire should be to bring Him glory in how we live, not out of obligation but out of pure love for Him. And when we pass on from this life to the next and stand in His glorious presence, we will be without fault because of Christ’s sacrifice and because of His teaching and our obedience there will be great joy. Oh that our lives would be lived for His glory and great joy!
