Making Deposits into the Kingdom

Philippians 4:10-23

Verse 17 Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account.

After again touching on the subject of the support of his friends Paul makes it clear that it isn’t the funds that he sees as important.

Paul wasn’t saying that he ungrateful for their caring gifts nor was he saying that they shouldn’t continue their support. Paul was making sure that his friends understood that this wasn’t his mission alone. They were partners with him in reaching the lost. That is important for us to remember too. Just because we aren’t the ones physically doing the ministry doesn’t mean that we don’t have the opportunity to have a part in it.

Whether it is a ministry in the church or one overseas there are things we can do to support someone who is using their God-given calling to help others come to Christ and grow in that relationship. We may be able to support them through finances or maybe there is a physical way we can support them. There are so many opportunities to serve God and His people.

The Spirit has gifted us each in different ways. And when we use our gifts to support each other the ministry as a whole is benefitted. When the Church is working as it is supposed to the Gospel will be going out to the masses as we are called to do.

This isn’t about huge evangelistic meetings where large numbers are brought in to the church membership. This is about the true growth of the Church. It is about helping others minister in their roles and helping each other grow deeper in their faith. After all this is what Jesus commissioned us to do when He said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20) Oh that we will be known to be like the Philippians in their support of the Gospel going into all the world.

Making It Personal

Do you know your responsibility of supporting those who take the Gospel to others? What is your gift to help the Church grow? Are you using your gift?

Making It Personal Kids

How does Jesus want you to share Him with others? Do you share Jesus with others? How can you share Him today?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for gifting us to carry out Your great commission. Teach us how we can support each other and encourage each other for the good of Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
