Look What He Did!

Psalm 145

Verses 11-12 They tell of the glory of Your kingdom and speak of Your might, so that all people may know of Your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of Your kingdom.

Today we start a two day look at verses that tie the praise of the people with the glory of His kingdom.

The “they” that David is talking about are the works of the Lord. He knows how well the works of the Lord speak for the Lord because he knows how the works of the Lord had spoken powerfully in his life. He knew that God would help him fight the giant because God had helped him fight the lion and bear when they came to attack the sheep.

God’s works tell of His majesty and that speaks to the glory of His kingdom. We see His mighty works all around us in the trees, flowers, critters, sunsets and every other created thing but they aren’t the only things that are telling of His glory. At least they shouldn’t be.

As God’s most precious creation we are to be telling of His glory too. We have been learning what it means to praise Him and the importance of speaking His name and telling of His mighty deeds, but are we seeing that this needs to be done not just in private praise? Of course this isn’t to say that we are supposed to make a show of our praise because that would be more like blaspheme, but we must be willing to speak of His goodness and amazing works.

This bringing Him glory is about pointing out His works in kind and loving ways. It is verbally giving Him credit for the beautiful sunset even when those around us may not understand His role in it. They may not agree but our job isn’t to convert them, that’s the Holy Spirit’s job but we may have a role in His work by pointing out the marvelous work of the Lord.

When we speak of God’s glory and might we are showing that He is not a human. That He has the creativity to paint a beautiful horizon both morning and night and ability to do it so that it can be seen by many at the same time. He gives us foretastes of His eternal kingdom, we need to share it.

Making It Personal

Where do you see God’s glory in life? Do you speak praise in public? What can you praise Him for today?

Making It Personal Kids

What are some ways that you see the glory of Jesus’ creation? Do you ever tell others that Jesus made everything? What are you going to praise Him for today?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for revealing Your glory and might. Help us love You enough to speak loudly Your praise so that others see You through Your handiwork. In Jesus’ name, amen.
