In the Palm of His Hand

John 10:27-30

Verse 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

Question 1 – What is your only comfort in life and in death? Answer –…He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my Salvation.

Comfort is a word that usually makes us think about ease and peace. But our question is not limited to happy places in life. If everything in life was going wonderfully there would be no need to be comforted. But this is life on earth and life isn’t always as we would want it.

This earthly life is full of its ups and downs. Sure we don’t like to think about the downward parts of life but God has a purpose in each one of them. Whether it is something brought on by our own actions that are contrary to the way that God has called us to live or because of the sin that is in the world around us, God will use it for His purpose and our good (Romans 8:28).

God isn’t limited to using only the good to bring about His plans. He knows just the way to work things out to bring us to a point of growing in the ways He needs us to grow. Nothing that happens throws His plans out the window. He is so in tune with every detail of every one of our lives that He knows exactly how to help us work through the hard times. He knows what He wants us to learn during the trials so that we can grow to be most like Christ.

One of the things He is constantly working out in our lives is His work of salvation. This isn’t to say that salvation comes in levels and if we have to work our way up to full salvation. This is totally His work in our lives. This is the work of making us more and more like Himself. He didn’t buy us with the blood of His Son to keep us in our current state.

In our passage today Jesus makes it clear that we are His and that we were given to Him from God, the Father. Not only have we been given to Christ but NO ONE can remove us from His hand. This should bring us great comfort! Even in the trials of life.

Making It Personal

Do you find it hard to feel His comfort in the time of trials? How does it make you feel that He is working in your life, even during the troublesome times? What have you learned through the trials in your life?

Making It Personal Kids

Do you like times of troubles in life? Does it help to know that Jesus is there to help you through them? What do you think about the fact that Jesus said no one could take one of His people out of His hand?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for holding us in Your loving hands. Please help us remember that You are working everything for our good and Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
