Psalm 119:89-96
Verse 89 Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.
Yesterday we discussed how we find hope in the Word when we dive into it. While hope is good, unless it is eternal, hope falls flat.
Today's reading starts with the psalmist praising God because His Word is eternal. He goes as far as saying that it stands firm in the heavens. I'm guessing that not many of us praise God for His Word very often. And we probably seldom think about the Word being eternal. In all honesty, how many of us think of ourselves as eternal?
The knowledge that His Word is eternal reminds us of three important things. First, it reminds us that He is eternal. This is important because it again reminds us of His vastness. Secondly, it reminds us that He is unchanging. He doesn't have one set of thinking for our earthly life and another for our eternal life. And lastly, it reminds us that we are eternal beings and we shouldn't wait until we die to start living His eternal will.
When we are abiding in Him, we must remember that this is our eternity. When we are truly His, we should already be living the heavenly minded life. This means that we should be so in tune to Him, growing in our knowledge of Him and His Word that our lives reflect heaven to those around us.
We shouldn't be afraid of being thought of as odd, because we should know that the people of the world won't understand how we think or act. In fact, if we aren't thought of as living different than those around us, we need to question our walk with the Lord.
Abiding is an eternal venture. It isn't about making a commitment, it is about living a commitment. We don't need to wait until heaven to praise God all the time. And we aren't talking about singing nonstop. This is more about focus, focus on God for who He is. He is the Eternal One.

Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for creating us to be eternal so we can spend eternity with You. Help us live in the way that points others to eternal life. In Jesus' name, amen.
