A Future Peace

Psalm 37:37-40

Verse 37  Consider the blameless, observe the upright; a future awaits those who seek peace.

Though we can experience the peace of mind in knowing Christ now on earth, there is so much more that we will be able to enjoy of His peace as we spend eternity with Him.  This is the future peace that we will know.  We enjoy His peace in the glimpses we have when we are walking the way He has taught us to, but we can’t begin to imagine the peace that living in His presence day in and day out will be like.

More often than we would like to admit, we get tied up with our attachment to this life and search only for the peace we can have in it.  We want peace in our relationships with family and friends, and while a good thing to desire, it will only satisfy until the next round of disagreements come.  Peace in this life isn’t lasting.  Part of the reason it doesn’t last here is because we tend to forget our peace of mind is to come from seeing the world and situations through His eyes versus our own eyes.

The reason this will be different in the future is because we will finally have our focus fixed solely on Christ, the Prince of Peace.  The cares of this world will be behind us so they will no longer be distracting us from the true peace of looking at things through the lens of eternity.  Remember, that is one reason we find it so hard to enjoy peace in this life.  There will always be people who rub us the wrong way or that have things – gifts, talents, relationships, or possessions – that we would like but don’t have.  Focusing on those things will rob us of the opportunities of peace God is giving even in this life.

It would serve us well to look at what God has given us and try to understand if it is a gift He has given us with eternity in mind.  If it is, there will be peace with it when we use it because it is building eternal benefits.  There are some of our gifts or talents which are specifically given to be used for Christ and the Church.  When we use those gifts in the way He meant for them to be used we will find peace.

Making It Personal

What kinds of things do you find peace in because you know they are of eternal value?  Are there gifts you are using for the kingdom?  What is your peace level?

Making It Personal Kids

What kinds of things do you think have value on earth and in heaven?  Do you do any of those things?  What can you do today that has eternal worth?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for this amazing peace that You give.  Help us focus on You and the things of eternity so that we can live in this peace always.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
