You Want Me to be an Ambassador?!

Philippians 1:1-11

Verse 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,

Today we continue the line of thought that we started in the last few days. We have learned that Paul prayed for them regularly and that he prayed for them with joy, but why?

Paul tells us that the reason he prays for them with joy is because they are working with him in spreading the Gospel and have been since they first believed. Paul’s joy in these people has to do with the growth he sees in their spiritual lives. Since day one with the ladies on the riverbank, or maybe even before getting to know the people as they were just walking around getting familiar with the town, Paul has witnessed that the Philippian believers weren’t satisfied with a passive relationship with God.

They knew it wasn’t enough to know the Good News, they needed to share it with those they came into contact with. They understood the sin of keeping the Gospel for themselves. When we keep the news of Jesus being our Lord and Savior to ourselves we are showing the sin of pride.

Just as the Pharisees felt that they were God’s favorite people because they kept the law better than all the others, to keep the Gospel of Jesus to ourselves, shows that we think it is only for us and we don’t share it as we should. This is the sad truth of many a Christian today.

As Christians we have a responsibility to making sure that the truth of Jesus is being proclaimed. Nowhere in Scripture does it say that only evangelists, pastors and prophets are to be the sole spreaders of the Gospel. Quite the contrary in fact. We are all called to speak of the goodness of God (1 Peter 2:9). Because we have been called out of the darkness we must proclaim the Light of the World who broke through the sin of our lives.

This partnership of the Gospel is ours and it should bring us joy as we work together in spreading the news that Jesus is the Promised One. God came as a human so that He could be the spotless Passover lamb who died for the sins of the world. Now that is reason for joy!

Making It Personal

Do you see yourself as someone who should be sharing Christ with others? How important is sharing the Gospel to you? Who are you going to be intentional about sharing Jesus with?

Making It Personal Kids

Do you like telling your friends about Jesus? Why does telling others about Jesus show you love Him? Who can you share Jesus with today?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for including us in spreading the Gospel. Give us a heart for sharing You with those around us and help us find joy in sharing about what You have done in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
