Daniel 2:26-49
Verse 27 Daniel replied, “No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about,…”
Now that Daniel and his friends had been established in the new land, a situation presented itself which tested their level of trust in God. The king had a dream and it bothered him enough to want an interpretation. The issue was he wouldn’t tell his magicians and so-called wise men what the dream was. He wanted them to prove they belonged in their position. If they couldn’t prove it, they deserved to die.
When the king said they must die if they couldn’t tell him the dream, he wasn’t just referring to the individuals who were coming before him, he meant he would have all of the men in those positions killed. That would mean if the other magicians and wise men couldn’t tell the king what he had dreamt, Daniel and his friends would also be cut up into pieces and have their houses turned to rubble.
When Daniel and his friends got the news, they knew there was no way they could know the king’s dream on their own, only God could know the inner thoughts of a man’s mind. But the king wanted answers that day. Thankfully God had softened the king’s heart towards these 4 young men because when they ask for an overnight to seek God on the matter, the king granted their desire. That meant they had a long night of prayer ahead of them.
The fact that they were willing to spend the night in prayer says a few things about these young men. First and foremost, they believed God was their only hope. They understood that only the Creator of man could possibly know the scenes that play out our heads. God would have to let them know what the king had seen in his dreams.
They also knew God personally. If they had only had a surface knowledge of the Lord, He wouldn’t have so readily given Daniel the information needed. God was using the king to prove that only the Creator God of the universe could come to the rescue of His people in such a big way.
Making It Personal
How much do you expect God to answer your prayers? Has He ever not shown up when you needed Him? What has His provision meant to you over the years?
Making It Personal Kids
Why did God help Daniel and his friends? How can pray help you know what God wants you to do? Are you willing to tell others what God says is truth?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for providing for us in every way possible. Give us wisdom on how to speak the truth to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
