Genesis 6:17-22
Verse 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.
Building this massive boat was a big project and would have kept Noah busy for many years but as big as the project was, there may have been another thing which Noah was wondering about, the animals. Noah was seeing the magnitude of God and how He cared for His chosen people. There must have been things that happened during the building of the Ark which reminded Noah of this being God’s plan.
Noah would have been seeing how God provided the needed materials for the project and the way when he was struggling to picture something he needed to do, that the Lord guided his thinking and pointed out how to fix whatever issue there was. Noah may have been amazed at how he could make something he had never seen or maybe he was in awe of how high up he was as he built the upper levels because it gave him a new view of God’s creation.
Yet with all Noah had witnessed about God and His power there was still the matter of the animals. Even in pre-flood days, his being over 500 years old meant he wasn’t a spring chicken, at best he was upper middle age (Genesis 7:6). Even with God saying He would bring the animals to Noah, he didn’t know how it was going to work to get them all on the boat. There was also the task of gathering all the food they would need for a long time in the boat. How would he know if he had enough?
Noah shouldn’t have been concerned though, because God cared about him, and He had set this all in motion, and He doesn’t start something, He isn’t planning on finishing. Just as He was helping Noah finish the large boat, He would make sure the animals arrived and that there would be enough food gathered. Just as God had provided young helpers in his sons, God was going to take care of every detail.
Imagine the moment the animals start arriving two by two. Creatures they may not have seen before show up in a pair and meander over to the place Noah is building this giant boat everyone has been making fun of. Then more and more animals and birds start coming and also gather near the Ark. Noah and his family probably found themselves in awe of this thing God was doing.
Making It Personal
Do you find yourself looking for ways God is showing Himself? What do you do when you notice God doing something only He could do? Do you share with others how you see Him work?
Making It Personal Kids
What are some things you can see that you know God did? Do you look to see all He is doing around you? Do you share what He does with others?
Closing Prayer
Father, there are so many things You do which should grab our attention but sadly we allow ourselves to get so busy we miss them. Give us the desire to seek You and see all You are doing around us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
