Lord of Eternity

Philippians 2:5-11

Verse 11 …and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

We know from our time together yesterday that the very name of Jesus is special. We also know that at the sound of His name every knee will bow but from our key verse today we see that it doesn’t end there.

It is sometimes hard for even us, as Christians, to acknowledge that He is Lord using our tongue. Our lives don’t even speak of His Lordship consistently. Sadly this isn’t something that concerns us as much as it should. We think of this matter of every knee bowing and every tongue confessing as something that will take place at the second coming of Christ. While it is true that when He comes back in the clouds everyone will acknowledge that He is Lord of all, if we don’t acknowledge that He is Lord now, we miss out on the fullness of relationship with Him.

His being Lord should be evident in every portion of our lives, including our speech. We aren’t talking about so called clean words, Paul was also talking about how we talk about Jesus. Do we talk about Him with those we come into contact with? We must be willing and ready to share what He has done for us.

To proclaim Him as Lord is to make His name known. It isn’t being ashamed of Him. We know the truth of who He is and so it is a sin for us not to acknowledge who He is. If we are honest with ourselves we have to say that the reason we don’t share Him more is because we think of ourselves more than we think of Him.

Learning to acknowledge Him with our mouths may take some practice but we will never regret it if He truly is the Lord of our lives. That is because if He is really the Lord of our lives, we know that acknowledging Him isn’t about what happens to us here. When He is on the throne of our heart He will reign there for eternity. He isn’t just Lord during this time in history, He is the Lord of eternity!

Making It Personal

How comfortable are you proclaiming that Jesus is Lord? When was the last time you voiced that He is Lord of your life? How will you proclaim Him today?

Making It Personal Kids

Why is it important to speak the truth about Jesus? What is something that you can say to show Jesus is the Lord of your life? What is something you can tell about Jesus today?

Closing Prayer

Father, Your name, alone, can bring people to their knees. We should be proclaiming Your name constantly. It is all for Your glory! We ask that You teach us to speak of You as we should. In Jesus’ name, amen.
