Joshua 2:1-15
Verse 11 When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.
We have been looking at the lives of people who have shown they knew God by the way they lived out worship in their lives. Today we are talking about a lady who knew about God through His deeds and from that knowledge declared Him to be the God above all gods.
Rahab wasn’t from a nation that knew God other than the stories they had heard about Him. Notice that one of the events she tells them she’s heard, was the crossing of the Red Sea. That would have happened 40 years before, likely before Rahab had even been born. This would mean that even in the Promised Land, the knowledge of God was growing. To some it incited fear and at least for Rahab it brought her to a point of awe. Awe for what God was capable of and therefore who He must be.
Rahab is willing to stake the life of her family on the fact that God was the Supreme God. She was sure enough of who He is that she helped enemy spies escape the city officials in exchange for becoming a part of His people. She was making a decision for God because she knew His character. And notice that she trusted these men to keep their word to her. She trusted them based on their being part of God’s people.
When we are living a life of worship based on our knowledge of God, it should show in our lives too. People should be able to trust us because they know He is trustworthy. We should be living reflections of His character.
