Honest To God

Copyright by Freedom in Christ, used with permission.

We learned this week how important it is to be emotionally honest with yourself, with God, and with those around you. How do you think you are doing in this area? Are you good at being honest about your emotions?

Remember the analogy from the teaching session: if there is a warning light on the dashboard of your car, is your natural tendency to ignore it and hope it will go away, to get cross and want to take a hammer to it, or to take an honest look at what the underlying problem is and sort it out?

In which of those ways do you react when your emotional warning light comes on, when you feel angry, anxious, or depressed? If you’re not sure, ask someone close to you, ideally someone who has lived with you such as your spouse, parents, or siblings. They will almost certainly be able to tell you! Being aware of what your natural tendency is will help you start to learn to handle your emotions in a healthier way.

As you pray today, talk to God honestly about how you feel about the situations you are praying about. Tell Him exactly how you feel. He won’t think badly of you: He already knows all about how you feel already; He also knows that being honest about that is the first step to healing.
