Ephesians 3:16-19
Verse 18 …may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,
We have been talking about how much Jesus loved us to come as a baby, but no matter how much we discuss it, we can’t pin down the magnitude of His love. He loved us when we were still sinners, living our own lives and enjoying our favorite sins. That proves that He didn’t love us because of how magnificent we are. The truth is, His love for us isn’t about who we are but rather who He is.
We love our children. We don’t love them because they have done anything to earn our love, we love them because they hold a special part of our heart. Whether our children came to us through bloodline or by choice, they are ours and no one can love them the way we do. The same is true of our relationship with God. We can do nothing to make Him love us more, nor can we do anything that can make Him love us less.
Though we don’t understand the fullness of His love ourselves, there is nothing more important than helping our children see how much God loves them. He doesn’t count them as grandchildren, but calls them to be His children. His love is so big that He allows us to be part of showing it to our children. He has given us the responsibility to show them the truth of His love by the way we treat them and train them.
Though it can seem like an overwhelming challenge, showing our children God’s love can be such a blessing because we are given the opportunity to give a glimpse of the Father’s love. By lovingly disciplining them and guiding them in Scripture, we are showing them the character of God and all the while learning more about Him ourselves.
This passing on the love of God is so important, not just for the children in our lives but the coming generations as well. What we pass on to our children can be passed onto the next generations. His love knows no end. It comes from a deeper well than we can imagine.
Making It Personal
How did your parents show you the love of God? How have you shown the love of Christ to the kids in your life? What is a new way you need to share His love?
Making It Personal Kids
How do your parents show you the love of God? How have they taught you to show God’s love? Who can you teach about the love of God?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for Your abundant love. Give us the desire to keep learning about the depth of Your love and how to pass it along. In Jesus’ name, amen.
