Ephesians 3:16-21
Verse 18 …may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,
We come to the end of our looking at God in the macro and micro sense. We have looked at so many ways that He has shown Himself bigger than we can fathom. His greatness enabled Him to create the world and vast universe simply by speaking it into being. We looked at how He organized the world in the perfect order not only for our sustenance but also for our enjoyment.
We also looked at how despite His greatness, He has an incredible attention to detail. The exact order of the creation shows how much attention He gave to the when of each part of creation. There was also His attention to the timing of when each person was born so that the right person would be where they needed to be to fulfill God’s purpose in their life for the betterment of God’s people.
We have seen how God knows each of His people and the lengths He went to as He grew them in their faith. For some He placed them in hard times so they could learn perseverance. For others He would place them in positions they weren’t born into for the specific purpose of training them for things in the future to rescue God’s people from an oppressor or evil ruler. Take Moses and David as examples of this. One born, endangered because of his family line and then raised as royalty because God wanted him to lead His people. The other born a shepherd boy so he could know God in a personal way before leading God’s people as their king.
We also learned about God’s amazing love which took people who would not have been an obvious choice for positions He had chosen for them. People like Rahab, a lady of detestable vocation who believed in a God she hadn’t been raised to believe in and protected His spies. God had already chosen her to be one of the women mentioned in Jesus’ genealogy.
Paul knew God in a big way because God had revealed Himself to His chosen mouthpiece in a big way. Because Paul knew God in such a grand way, he wanted others to know God in the same way. As Paul explained his prayers for his friends in Ephesus, he hoped everyone could come to recognize how wide and long and high and deep God’s love is. His love for us was displayed most beautifully through the gift of our Savior, Jesus. Let’s join Paul in his prayer so that all may know the vastness of our God.
Making It Personal
How has God shown Himself big to you? What detail of God’s work do you find most fascinating? How can you help others see the greatness of God and His love?
Making It Personal Kids
How would you describe how big God is? What about God makes you want to know Him more? Do you tell others about how big He is?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for revealing Yourself to us in big ways and in the smallest details. Give us a growing desire to make You known to all we meet. In Jesus’ name, amen.
