Psalm 95:1-2
Verse 2 Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song.
The above verse reminds us of another way we take God for granted. We speak of praising Him and talk about praying to Him, but how often do we think about how amazing it is that God not only allows us to approach His throne, He calls us to. Kings are generally off limits to the average person in their kingdom, but the King of Kings tells us to come to Him.
We can go to Him in prayer, meaning we have a direct line to the Father who can help us get anything we need. We can pour out our hopes and dreams as well as our complaints and confusion. He didn’t say that we could only come to Him with the happy things of life, but the unhappy things as well. No matter what we are bringing, the reason we can is because He said we can.
Instead of taking this opportunity for granted, we should be seeing this as another reason we should be thankful for Him and towards Him. It gives us a reason to worship Him and make Him known. We shouldn’t go into His presence feeling like we are going to be banished from the kingdom. We have been invited. He is approachable and few knew that more than those who wrote the Psalms.
These songs were written knowing that God could handle the dealings of the heart of His people. He isn’t afraid of what we may feel as we walk through this life. He knows we are going to deal with trials and questions but He didn’t say we have to deal with them on our own. Peter told us that we are to cast our cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7). Peter knew God’s approachability.
This approachability is something that we should be very thankful for. We should be more intentional about thanking Him for listening to us and answering our prayers. There is no God like our God. He is alive and can hear us unlike false God’s made of wood, stone or metal. But more than hearing, our God listens.
Making It Personal
When praying do you ever think about God being approachable? Do you approach Him in humility? What does it mean to you that God listens to you?
Making It Personal Kids
Have you ever thought about how prayer means you are talking to God? How does it make you feel to know God is listening to your prayers? What do you want to talk to Him about today?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for caring enough about us to invite us into Your presence. We want to be more intentional about focusing on what it means that the righteous God of the universe wants to listen to us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
