A Perfect Body

Philippians 3:17-4:1

Verse 21 …who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body.

Knowing that Christ has everything under His control should be greatly comforting to us and yet there is reason for us to be excited about His power too.

We know our lowly bodies well. We deal daily with their aches, pains, bumps and bruises. We may not like their size or unique qualities but know there isn’t always much that we can do about it. They are our bodies and we are stuck with them for life. But then what?

Since Jesus is the Creator and all things were created through Him, He has the power over all of His creation. We learned yesterday that God the Father gave Him this authority and in that power He can transform His creation as He wills. Now this isn’t a reason to pray and ask for a makeover to look more like we want to look. There are things that are in our ability to change something's such as hairstyles, and maybe even the shape of our body through eating habits and exercise but even though we have these options we can’t perform true transformations on our bodies. But Christ isn’t limited in what He can do.

Jesus used His transforming power on His own earthly body when He took the body that had been beaten and crucified and brought it back to life. But He didn’t bring it back to limited earthly life. He brought it back in a way that while visible to humans was fit for another place. It was no longer limited by the natural law of the planet as we can see when He ascended back to heaven. An earthly body couldn’t have broken through earth’s gravity. No, He had risen with a new body.

This is the body style that Paul is referring to when he says that Jesus will use His power to transform our bodies to be like His. When He comes for His Bride, the Church, He will not only take her to be with Him, He will transform each of us in the Church to have glorious bodies like His. And transform us from this worldly existence to eternal life with Him. Oh what a glorious day!

Making It Personal

What parts of eternity with Jesus are you looking forward to? What parts of your life is Jesus already transforming? How is your life reflecting your knowledge of what is ahead for you following this life?

Making It Personal Kids

What do you think about spending forever with Jesus? What do you think your new body will be like? Who can you tell about Jesus?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for the promise of transforming our bodies. Help us surrender to You fully so that You can transform us to be all that You want us to be here on earth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
