You Alone Are Worthy, Lord

Psalm 122

Verse 1 I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”

We know that David was excited to come together with others in worship but he also knew it was important for all of God’s people to see the need for getting together to join their hearts in worship of the King of kings.

Going to church on Sunday has become less and less important in society. Sadly it doesn’t seem to be important among those who claim to be Christians either. With the increase of media it has become easier to stay home and watch church on TV and in more recent years, the internet. The problem is that God made us for community.

There was a reason God commanded His people to come together to worship. There is something special and unifying about coming together with others who love the Lord to worship Him in unison. This is actually a foretaste of what we will be experiencing in heaven. There we will be worshiping Him with all the other created beings in heaven. Forever.

Knowing that this is the preview of what we will be participating in for all eternity, it may be a good idea to accept and come to enjoy worshiping together while we are still here on earth. To achieve this enjoyment of worship we need to remember what true worship is. It is giving glory to God for who He is and praising Him for what He has done in the past, what He is doing in the present and what He will do in the future and for eternity. Of course this doesn’t mean that we should only worship Him together at church. There are so many times and ways we can worship Him together and one of the most important places that often gets overlooked is the home.

What better place to worship Him together than with those we love the most? And what better way for us to help our children see the importance of worshiping together. In a world where it is easy to be consumed by the activities that bring glory to the things of this life, we need to be even more diligent about making sure our children know the only One who is worthy of our worship and teach them how to worship Him.

Making It Personal

Who taught you how to worship God? Do you know the importance of gathering together to worship? Who can you influence in how to worship?

Making It Personal Kids

How have you learned to worship? Do you know it is important to worship together at home and at church? Can you help others know how to worship Jesus?

Closing Prayer

Father, we do come to worship You. You alone are worthy. You are more than we could even imagine and so we worship You in our feeble understanding. Help us desire to worship together with other believers. In Jesus’ name, amen.
