Workers for Christ

Acts 1:7-8

Verse 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Jesus had been preaching repentance and obedience and now He was wanting His disciples to know the job He had for them for His kingdom. They don’t realize it but the places He has for them in the new kingdom is nothing like they think. They won’t be seers or princes in the court of the King, they were going to be His ambassadors. Ambassadors of the Kingdom they had unknowingly been already working in with Him.

Jesus had chosen His ambassadors and been training them without them fully understanding the concept of this new kingdom. He was teaching them the things they would need to know and helping them see the truth of the religious leaders of the day. They needed to know the laws that were God-given and the ones that were man-given.

These men were human just as we are. They would need reminders, just as we do and that is one reason that Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit. The Spirit reminds us of the things that we have learned. He reminds us so that we can lead others to saving knowledge of Jesus. He will bring to mind memory verses we have learned and sermon points that will help us live obedient lives. He helps us grow in our own spiritual lives which aids us in carrying out the mission that He gave His disciples, and ultimately us, to do.

When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are accepting the task that He has called us to. We are to be witnesses for Him in all areas of our lives. Our lives should be proclaiming the truth of Jesus in our homes, with our friends, in our community, workplaces and to the very ends of the world. We aren’t called into the Kingdom for our own good alone. We have purpose in the Kingdom.

Making It Personal

In what ways are you being a witness for Jesus? Are there ways that you know you should be witnessing and haven’t taken the step to do so? What is holding you back?

Making It Personal Kids

In what ways are you being a witness for Jesus? Is there someone you should be showing the truth of Jesus to? How can you show them Jesus today?

Closing Prayer

Father, it is humbling to know that You desire us to be an active part of Your Kingdom. Help us surrender to the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that we can be effective witnesses of Jesus, our Savior. In Jesus’ name, amen.
