The Greatest Gift

Luke 2:5-7

Verse 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,

The time has come. Those nine months of roller coaster emotions, tense discussions about this unplanned pregnancy were finally done. There had probably been some gossip to deal with and there were the normal pregnancy ups and downs. Unwanted swollen ankles and then the joy of feeling that first kick. There had been the priceless moments of spending time with Elizabeth and then this long trip back to that region at this late date.

The Bible doesn’t tell us how long they were there before the moment arrived. We don’t know if Mary was alone for the birth or if they were able to find her someone to help with the birth. We do know that the King of all Kings, who was used to being served by all His creation was now in the care of a very young woman.

This child and mother were both away from home but were right in the place that God had planned all along. God was not surprised by the town, the manger or any of the other details that He had planned. This night was just as He scheduled and not a single portion of a detail was out of place. That was the truth about all of Jesus’ life on earth. God had every miracle and rejection already on His schedule and everyone had a purpose in His plan.

He hasn’t given up His control of the details in life. For the children of God we can know that not a single thing in our lives happens without His working it for our good. We were not born in the time Jesus was on earth but even those details were being worked out for us and our good. This birth of this long-awaited Messiah was not just for the Jewish people. Christ came to set up a spiritual kingdom that included people from all nations.

This baby was born as a gift to the world. A gift that changes lives. Forever. A King that invites us to be part of His family and promises a place to live with Him for eternity. This is our King!

Making It Personal

Is Jesus the King of your life? Does your life prove that? Who needs to hear about his reason for coming to earth?

Making It Personal Kids

Is Jesus the one ruling in your life? How do you prove it by the way you act? Who do you know that needs to hear about Jesus?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for this most precious gift. Please help us see the truth of our sin and the importance of Your sacrifice. In Jesus’ precious and holy name, amen.
