Verse 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.
The great gift of Christmas. A babe that was so much more than a tiny human. Jesus came as the long promised Messiah which is Christ in Greek. God gave Him another name. A name that reveals exactly who this boy child was, He was God come in the flesh. The Creator come as a member of His creation.
This is the love of God on full display. Immanuel, God with us. Yes, this is the gift of Christmas. The babe born in Bethlehem was the opening of a new kind of relationship with God Almighty. He could no longer be held at arm’s length. He is more personal. This is one reason the Pharisees had troubles with Him, they didn’t want a personal relationship with Him. They had grown comfortable with a relationship with the Law instead of the Law Giver.
He wants a relationship with us too. His coming all those years ago wasn’t just for them, it was for us. In Him we find the hope, peace, joy and love of Christmas, but best of all we find Christ, Himself. The One promised long ago and sent to redeem us from our sin. We are given God with us. This Christmas, take this gift and build a relationship with Him. This is His desire.
