Passing It On

Psalm 112

Verse 5 Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.

The psalmist continues his list of things that show the way righteous people live lives of praise to the Father. Today we look at how to worship God with the bounty He provides for us.

As we have mentioned a few times already during this look at Psalm 112, living for God does not promise us massive amounts of wealth. But God does always provide for our needs. Sometimes the way He provides for us is through other believers and sometimes the way He provides for other believers is through us.

When we have the means to help someone and don’t it shows that we love our things more than we love God because we are willing to hurt others by withholding. When God supplies our needs He isn’t looking just at us and our needs. He sees those around us and has plans to care for all His people. Sometimes using each other.

The principle behind this act of praise is about not being stingy with what the Lord has blessed us with. To give generously and freely to each other shows our thankfulness for all that He has given us. Everything we have, came from Him and if we are truly thankful then we will want to be giving to others in need too.

But the truth is this isn’t all about money. Sometimes we have other means of helping even if we are not wealthy. We all have time and energy that could be shared with those around us that need it. There are people around us that could use a ride or a phone call. Or maybe they have been ill and could use help picking up some groceries or maybe need some cleaning done in their home. Maybe a family with a new baby or someone who has had surgery could use a meal brought in. There are so many ways that we can be generous with each other. This is a way that our praise of God could shine into the darkness of another person’s trials. A way we can bring Him glory by giving as freely as He does.

Making It Personal

Who has God used to help you through a tough time? Who have you blessed because of God’s blessing you? Who needs help now that you are able to provide for?

Making It Personal Kids

What are ways that people with no money can still help others? Do you look for people to help? Who can you help today as a way of saying “thank you” to Jesus for all the ways He helps you?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for providing ways and the means for us to help others in Your name. Thank You for always providing for our needs and sometimes even using friends to do that. Give us the needed sight to see the needs of others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
