Pains of Leadership
Verse 2 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.
Yesterday we talked about the joy of being in unity as believers but what does that mean for leadership?
David was intentional about mentioning the priestly leader in his reference to the joy of unity. One place where unity is most noticed and beneficial is in and for leadership. When there is discord between leadership and the people there is pain for the body of believers and for the community outside its doors. It is a mar on the name of the church but more so a mar on God's name.
If the discord is in the leadership there will eventually be a divide in the body and the ministry of the church is effected greatly. This isn't to say there will never be disagreements amongst the leaders, but in the disagreement there can't be division. They must never allow the difference of opinion take control of their emotions and therefore give a foothold to the enemy (Ephesians 4:26-27).
When there is discord amongst the membership the issue brings grief and stress to leadership for they must become the peacemakers. They have the responsibility to encourage the members to see things from God's perspective and to come together in the bond of their relationship with Him.
On the other hand, when there is unity between leadership and membership there is precious joy as a Church family. There will be a desire to join together frequently to worship together and study His Word. There will be such a sweet communion among the group that the community will see them and be drawn into their midst.
When there is unity in leadership there is a joy of serving together and the ministry can abound. When there is unity in the membership the leadership will also find joy. Where discord among the membership, the leadership will find themselves bogged down, unable to serve fruitfully. Oh the joy of leadership when the Church is living as Christ desires. Unity is a pure reflection of the Trinity after all. Oh to worship in unity!

Making It Personal Kids
How does your mom and dad react when you are fighting with your brothers or sisters? Do you think that it causes your mom and dad stress when you argue? How can you help your parents not feel stressed?
Father, thank You for this reminder that discord doesn’t just affect us but that others have to deal with the fallout of our not living in unity. Give us wisdom and grace as we deal with those around us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
