Our Solid Rock

Psalm 61:1-3

Verse 2 From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Yesterday we talked about how it must have hurt to hear all the mocking of Jesus and ended our time together by asking if our actions ever mock God and His name. Today we will look at what we need to remember when the mockery is aimed at us because of our relationship with Christ.

Just as the early Christians received mocking for believing in Jesus, if we are living as His true followers we will also find times where we are mocked for our beliefs. There will be times we will be able to shrug off the insults because they will come from those that don’t matter to us but there will be other times that the insults will hit us closer to the heart because they will come from those that we are close to or maybe at a time where we are already low. We may even lose friends and family after taking a stand for Christ.

It is during these times of insults that we need to seek the One who will never leave us. David knew what it was like to feel that he was alone in the world. He found himself at odds with family and King Saul and knew that God was the only one who would actually be there for him no matter what. That is what the verses before us today show.

When we are in the pain of losing those we care about because of our relationship with Christ, we learn just how important it is that we hold close to God. It is so easy to feel like we are completely alone but when we are in close relationship with Him we are never alone. When everyone else is walking out we can know that He will never leave. David knew God’s stability in our lives and likened Him to a rock. He is steady, He holds firm. We can turn to Him for protection or stability. He is unmovable and so will be there whenever we need Him.

He has promised not to leave us. He can’t. It would be against His character. He is faithful, through everything, He is faithful.

Making It Personal

Have you ever felt like you were alone because of your relationship with God? Who do you turn to when you feel alone? Are you holding to the Rock?

Making It Personal Kids

Have you ever felt like no one cared? Did you know that God always cares? Do you trust God to keep you safe?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for being our rock. You alone are stable enough to be there for us no matter the pain we find ourselves in. We look to You and hold tight to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
