Forever Exalted

Psalm 92

Verse 8 But you, Lord, are forever exalted.

Yesterday we talked about embracing God in the pain of life, today we turn to the longevity of praise and why He deserves praise for eternity.

The Pharisees had told Jesus that He needed to tell His followers to stop praising Him. Jesus replied that if His followers kept quiet that the rocks themselves would shout for joy (Luke 19:40). Our verse today points to this same theme. There WILL be praise to the Lord for eternity. Although it pleases Him that we as His followers praise Him, He knows He will be praised with or without us. But His first desire would be for us to praise Him. It is the way that we can embrace Him back when He shows us His love.

We should think about the concept that He desires our praise. It pleases Him that we want to praise Him just as a parent’s heart is warmed to hear sincere thanks from their children. He loves us and He wants to know that we appreciate all that He does for us. We like when people acknowledge what we do for them, don’t we? Why would we think that Christ would like anything less?

All of this having been said, we need to remember that God isn’t just anyone. He is the God of the universe. The Creator of the universe. There is nothing that will EVER be out of His control. In this world, even to its very end, He will never lack a single iota of control. This isn’t just something that qualifies Him for passing praise, He deserves all the praise all the time! He deserves ALL OUR praise all the time! Not just for all that He does, but for all He is. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit provide us with so much physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Maybe the fact that we don’t praise Him with all our heart all the time says more about us than it does about what He does for us. Maybe, just maybe, the reason we don’t give Him the wholehearted praise He deserves is because we don’t see Him for who He is. If we find it hard to praise Him now, how do we expect to praise Him for eternity?

“Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the nations. Who will not fear you, Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.” Revelation 15:3b-4

Making It Personal

Are there ways that you hold back praise from the Almighty? What has He done recently in your life that deserves praise? Is praising God important to you?

Making It Personal Kids

What has God done that deserves praise? How long will God deserve praise? Are you wanting to praise Him that long?

Closing Prayer

Father, You alone are worthy of our praise, both now and forever. Thank You for all that You are. In Jesus’ name, amen.
