Faithful to the End
Verse 4 He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
We have been talking this week about the fact that God had to forsake Jesus for a short time so that He will never forsake us. His faithfulness is something we never have to doubt.
There are so many ways that God is faithful. He was faithful to His promise to Eve in the Garden of Eden about sending her seed to destroy the evil one. The whole evil situation of the cross was nothing more than the Godhead setting up to defeat the enemy. The cross was not the end. Easter Sunday’s resurrection was the beginning of the ultimate victory over the evil one who had started the chain of sin in the days of the Garden of Eden.
The serpent led the woman, and in turn the man, into sin with one of his main tools of evil – doubt about God and His faithful nature. As the woman gazed at the fruit the serpent came and asked questions that led her to doubt God’s goodness and question just how faithful His words were. He knew just the right words to get her thinking that maybe he was right about what God had said and meant. The enemy does the same to us.
Though we may know in our hearts that God is faithful in all ways, we don’t act like He is. We think that we are alone when we are never alone. We think that He has forgotten us when our lives aren’t going as we thought they would, when in fact we are missing that His faithfulness will only allow the things in our lives that are needed for our growth and His glory.
God is forever faithful. Jesus was faithful to the end as we can see through His remaining on the cross throughout those lonely hours in the dark on the cross. He was faithful to the Father, to Their mission and to us, since it was all for our good. He glorified the Father in His faithfulness. In turn, we can return this love through faithfulness to God and His commands. Faithfulness is our duty. Faithfulness through the situations and seasons of life that are difficult. Faithfulness through those dangers and troubles that creep up on every side. Faithfulness through the times when we are tempted to give in or give up. We need to be faithful because He is faithful. He is our example and His faithfulness should spur us on to the same.
