Clothed for Praise

Psalm 132

Verse 16 “I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.”

We continue our look at the quotes from God about His chosen city and people as the psalmist continues reminding the people why they are journeying to His city to worship Him.

We talked a week ago about our priestly clothing. We know that He has chosen to clothe us in righteousness but what does it mean that He has clothed us with salvation? He is our salvation and with that thought it gives us the idea that we are to be clothed in who He is. While that may sound like a strange thing to say the fact is that if we are to be His priests we should be dressing in a way that says who He is and what He does.

Many wear graphic tee shirts that show a favorite band or TV show. We know the person’s style of music or tastes by what they sport on their shirt. What if Christians were to be giving off the messages of Christ on their lives and clothing? We don’t mean that we should only be seen in graphic shirts that talk about Jesus but that our lives, style of dress as well as our actions and speech reveal the salvation we have received from the One we have given lordship of our lives to.

Next He mentions how the faithful of His kingdom will be known as singers of joy. He didn’t say we would all sound like a songbird but that the faithful will forever sing joyfully. When we are right with God, we will be able to have a song of joy in our hearts no matter what the circumstances of our life are. That is because we know that He is fully in charge and that we can trust Him to do what is best for us and what will bring Him the greatest glory (Romans 8:28).

There is no greater joy than knowing God and living life with Him as our King. He rules with love and justice. He doesn’t promise us a life of pure bliss but He does promise to be with us through whatever comes our ways. But to remain in this joy, we must remain in Him and not turn to the ways of the world.

Making It Personal

What is the message you are wearing in life? Is God glorified by your message? What song of joy are you singing today?

Making It Personal Kids

Why does Jesus care how you dress and act? Do you act in a way that brings Jesus joy? Do you like singing songs of joy to Jesus?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for clothing us to reflect You. Please give us the wisdom needed to wear our salvation to Your glory and give us songs of praise. In Jesus’ name, amen.
