Answering the Call
Verse 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Yesterday we talked about how when we believe something and it makes an impact in our lives we should share it with those around us. Today we will look at how Jesus instructed us to share the good news.
The passage before us today shows that we aren’t the only one that may find ourselves doubting but it is important to remember that they didn’t stay in their doubt. And even though they had some doubt, they worshiped Him. This is important because we may have times where doubt may seem to creep in but if we keep focusing on and worshiping Him, remembering that He did indeed rise from the dead, the doubt won’t last for long. Peter walking on the water towards Jesus is a good example of that (Matthew 14:22-33).
Once we are standing firmly on our beliefs we need to take the next step, sharing those beliefs with others. This may be something that scares us but if we are going to obey Jesus we have to come to the end of ourselves and take the steps of faith to obey Him and share Him. Our key verse for today gives the first step of sharing Him. This sharing Him isn’t without purpose but is rather purposeful. We don’t speak of Christ and who He is for the sake of name-dropping, no, our speaking about Him should be for the express purpose of helping others know the truth of who He is so that they will call on Him and believe in Him too.
He has commanded us, when He commissioned the disciples, to make disciples of others. This doesn’t mean we, personally, can beat them to make them disciples but that we are to help them see the truth of who He is and show them their need for Him. He has given us this command and it is important that we obey. If Christ is truly alive shouldn’t we be telling the world? Shouldn’t we be helping others see what His being alive can mean for them? This is the point of the Great Commission, if He is alive we need to be about His business and continue what He started by making disciples. If we believe shouldn’t we want others to believe also?
Making It Personal
Do you have times that doubts seem to come? Do those times come when you let your focus fall from Christ? Is making disciples important to you?
Making It Personal Kids
How important is Jesus to you? Does it make you feel good to know Jesus is close to you? What do you think it means to be a disciple of Jesus?
Father, thank You for calling us to share You with those around us. Help us grow in our relationship with You so that we want to share You with everyone we meet. In Jesus’ name, amen.
