Always Near, Always Aware

Psalm 124

Verse 8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

In this song for the journey David has been reminding us that we would be lost if it weren't for us having God by our side. This is a true reason for worship.

David knew that the reason God was always by his side was that God had personally designed him. He was created for what God had for him to do in this life and David knew he was never without the Creator there as his help and guide. As we have already discussed God gives us His sovereign protection and will keep us from being harmed in a way that is not for our good. That last phrase may seem like an oxymoron but it is actually a true, and hopefully comforting, statement.

Why should it be comforting to us to know that He won't allow any harm come to us that isn't for our good? Because it shows the truth of His sovereignty. As Creator He still holds the control over His creation. Not a hair falls from our head without His notice. He is very in tune with us even knowing our thoughts.

Unfortunately we are not always in tune with His thoughts. There are times when though He doesn’t leave us we drift from living in close contact with Him. What a comfort to know that even in those times He is never more than a prayer away. Our Creator is not only aware of what is going on in our lives but is attentive to what we are dealing with.

Mothers of toddler are generally aware of their little ones whereabouts even if only subconsciously, and when things are too quiet she is right there to address whatever the child has gotten themselves into. That is like God in some ways except that God is never only subconsciously aware of what is going on in our lives. In fact we need to remember that He doesn’t need to watch us to know what is going on. He has full access to our very thoughts.

The knowledge that He constantly takes notice of our thoughts may cause us to squirm a little. We like to think they are private and therefore no one knows them. He monitors them so that the Holy Spirit can prompt us against our evil, sinful thoughts and once again set us on the path for worship.

Making It Personal

Do you feel comforted from the thought that He is always watching? What about the fact that He is listening too? Are there things you need to address in your thought life so that you can maintain a good, healthy relationship with God?

Making It Personal Kids

How do you feel knowing that Jesus is always with you? Do you have thoughts that you wish Jesus didn’t know? What can you do to make sure that your thoughts and action will always make Jesus happy?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for always being near and aware of our thoughts and actions. Give us the desire to make our thoughts and actions align with You so that we can worship You by being living witnesses. In Jesus’ name, amen.
